• Widespread deforestation- During the cocoa boom in the 1970's, the expansion led to the decline of the Atlantic Forest ecoysystem.

• Cattle problems- The expansion of cattle ranching has been related to soy cultivation.  This poses a threat to sensitive ecoystems.

• Paper pulp problems- There are several conflicts with the indigenous people of Brazil about landrights.
